CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: An orientation program was organized by the Department of Media Management at the Makhanpuram campus of Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism and Communication.
In this orientation program, esteemed personalities from four different fields addressed the new students on topics such as personality development, careers in media, radio station management, and talent versus skill. The university’s registrar, Avinash Vajpayee, honored the chief speakers and, while addressing the students, emphasized that this orientation is very important and that students should listen attentively to all the speakers. He said that if you learn something from this orientation, it will be very useful in the future.
Chief speaker Mahendra Joshi spoke about personality development and shared this motivational line with the students: “If I continue doing what I have always done, I will get what I have always gotten.” In reference to this line, Joshi explained why students from IIT and IIM stand out—they come prepared to learn. Anand Pandey, Editor-in-Chief of “The Sutra,” explained how today’s youth can build a career in the media industry. He told the students that with knowledge, hard work, and a positive attitude, they can excel in this field. He concluded his talk by advising students to stay away from lust, war, and dirt, as only then can they maintain consistency in their work.
RJ Roopak spoke about radio station management and how to build a career in this field. He explained how the accounts, marketing, and sales teams work in a radio station. He also detailed the hierarchy, with the programming head at the top, followed by RJs, copywriters, and promo producers, and how they all work together. Roopak discussed how a radio station’s brand image is created and how to target specific groups with their programming. He emphasized that every RJ must stay updated daily and be aware of local news and its relevance to the listeners.
Director Roopak outlined the various career opportunities available in radio. Director Rajeev Mishra used examples of Usain Bolt, Sachin Tendulkar, and MS Dhoni to illustrate how they combined their talent with skill to achieve success in their respective fields through hard work. The orientation program for students was also attended by special guests Kanchan Bhatia, Manisha Verma, Director Prashant Parashar, and guest lecturers.
