CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The use of drugs such as Ozempic and Mounjaro for weight loss is rising rapidly. These medicines are considered effective options for people struggling with obesity, but their effect is not the same for everyone. Patients are reaching the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi after using these medicines for several months without achieving the expected reduction in weight.
According to reports, doctors at AIIMS Delhi say that nearly 20 percent of patients coming for obesity treatment are those who took medicines such as Ozempic or Mounjaro for several months but did not lose weight. Some patients began treatment on medical advice and also increased the dosage during the prescribed period, yet did not get the expected results. Such patients are now reaching AIIMS to seek information about other weight-loss options.
How do these medicines work? Ozempic contains semaglutide, while Mounjaro contains tirzepatide. These medicines mimic the effect of hormones linked to appetite and the feeling of fullness after eating. Their use may reduce hunger and help a person eat less, supporting weight loss. However, their effect can vary depending on an individual’s physical condition, health problems and response to treatment. Therefore, it is not correct to assume that every person using these medicines will definitely lose weight.
Doctors say these medicines are not a shortcut to weight loss. Several claims about them are made on social media. Some people start using them after seeing the experiences of acquaintances and expect rapid weight loss in a short time. But taking the medicine without proper medical evaluation or changing the dosage on one’s own can be harmful. These medicines may also have side effects. Therefore, they should be used only on the advice and under the supervision of a qualified doctor. If the expected results are not seen after taking the medicine, patients should consult the doctor again instead of increasing the dose themselves or starting another medicine.
According to AIIMS doctors, a balanced diet and regular physical activity are important for weight loss. Adequate sleep, a regular routine and maintaining healthy habits over the long term can also help in weight management. Medicines should not be seen as a substitute for a healthy lifestyle. If obesity is severe and is worsening diabetes, high blood pressure or other health problems, doctors may consider options such as medication, lifestyle changes or, if needed, weight-loss surgery, depending on the patient’s condition.
The message from experts is clear: no single method of weight loss is equally effective for everyone. The right treatment should be chosen on the basis of a person’s health, needs and medical advice.
