CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News /Agencies/ Bhopal: Farmers are facing an economic crisis after paddy crops were submerged in water. Waterlogging in the fields has caused heavy damage to the crop. Farmers are now waiting for a damage survey in the hope of compensation for the ruined crop, but their worries have increased because the patwaris who conduct the survey are sitting on protest.

Farmers say the paddy crop they had raised through hard work has been destroyed because of rain and waterlogging. In such a situation, it is necessary that the assessment of damage and the compensation process be completed on time. Farmers have asked that when the patwaris who carry out the survey are themselves on protest, who will survey the damage in the fields and how will they get relief.

Because of the patwaris’ protest, there is apprehension that crop-damage surveys and revenue-related work may be affected. Farmers fear that a delay in the survey could also prolong the compensation process. For the affected farmers, the most urgent need at present is to ensure a fair assessment of the damage in the fields and timely relief.
