CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: New Delhi. After the schedule for the 2027 ODI World Cup was released, Pakistan’s possible route in the tournament has become clearer. Pakistan has been placed in Group A with India, Australia, Afghanistan, host Zimbabwe and one qualifier team. Only four teams from this group will qualify for the next round in the initial stage.

Pakistan will begin its campaign against Afghanistan on October 8, 2027. It will then face India in Johannesburg on October 10. The team will play the qualifier team on October 15, Zimbabwe on October 19 and Australia on October 22. This means Pakistan will play a total of five matches in the group stage.

Under the new format, the top three teams from both groups will qualify directly for the Super-7 stage. In addition, the better-performing team among the fourth-placed sides in the two groups will also get a place in the Super-7. In such a situation, finishing in the top three of the group will be Pakistan’s direct route to the next stage, while if it finishes fourth, its future will depend on the performance of the fourth-placed team from the other group.

If Pakistan advances beyond the group stage, it will have to start afresh in the Super-7, because points from the group stage will not be carried into the next round. In the Super-7, seven teams will play six matches each, and the top four teams will reach the semifinals. Therefore, it will be important for Pakistan to secure consistent positive results in the initial stage.
