Pakistan Airstrikes Kill Children, Escalate Afghanistan Tensions
CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan have intensified once again after the Taliban government accused Pakistan of carrying out fresh airstrikes inside Afghan territory, resulting in the deaths of at least 13 civilians, including 11 children. According to Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid, the strikes targeted residential areas in the eastern Afghan provinces of Khost, Kunar, and Paktika, while also injuring at least 14 others, most of them women and children.
The Taliban administration strongly condemned the attacks, describing them as a violation of Afghanistan’s sovereignty and airspace. Afghan officials alleged that civilian homes were hit during the operation and warned that such actions could further destabilize the region. Pakistan had not immediately confirmed or publicly commented on the reported strikes at the time of the reports.
The latest incident comes amid months of escalating hostilities between the two neighbors. Islamabad has repeatedly accused Afghanistan of allowing militant groups, particularly the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), to operate from Afghan territory, an allegation the Taliban government denies. The dispute has led to repeated cross-border clashes and military actions throughout 2026.
Regional observers fear the renewed violence could derail diplomatic efforts and increase instability along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border. The civilian casualties have also raised fresh international concerns regarding the humanitarian impact of the ongoing conflict.
