CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The Government of India has issued a clarification regarding its sports participation policy, stating that athletes from Pakistan will be permitted to compete in India only in multilateral sporting events such as international tournaments and championships organized under global or regional governing bodies. However, the longstanding bilateral sports ban between India and Pakistan will continue to remain in force.

This clarification comes amid rising speculation about whether sporting ties between the two nations could see a broader relaxation. Officials have reiterated that while India remains committed to hosting and participating in international events, bilateral series or direct sports engagements between India and Pakistan are not part of the current policy framework.

The decision ensures that events such as global championships, Asian-level competitions, and other internationally sanctioned tournaments hosted in India can include participation from Pakistani athletes, in line with global sporting norms. However, standalone bilateral series in cricket or other sports remain suspended due to diplomatic and security considerations.

Sports analysts view this as a balanced approach, allowing India to maintain its global sporting obligations while keeping bilateral restrictions intact. The clarification also helps avoid confusion among international sports federations regarding participation rules for future events hosted in India.
