CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Pakistan hosting Women's T20 World Cup, India may play in UAE

Bhopal. Pakistan will host the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup to be held in 2028, but matches involving the Indian women’s cricket team are likely to be staged in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Under the hybrid model in place for cricket events between India and Pakistan, India’s matches may be held at a neutral venue. However, the UAE has not yet been finalised for Indian matches.

Tournament to be held from September 7 to October 1

According to the International Cricket Council (ICC) schedule, the 12-team Women’s T20 World Cup will be held from September 7 to October 1, 2028. Pakistan has been named the main host of the tournament. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) wants matches other than those involving the Indian team, including knockout matches in which India is not participating, to be held in Pakistan.

Why the hybrid model may be applied

Under the agreement between India and Pakistan, when either country hosts an ICC tournament, the other country’s team plays its matches at a neutral venue. This arrangement was also applied in the 2025 Champions Trophy. In that tournament, the Indian team played all its matches in Dubai. According to a PCB official, the UAE could be a practical option for the Indian team’s matches. As travel from Pakistan to Dubai is relatively easy, it could help control travel and event-related expenses.

Plan for the final as well

According to the report, if the Indian team does not reach the final, Pakistan may consider staging the title match in Lahore. However, this is a possible PCB plan, not the final schedule announced by the ICC. Official confirmation on the tournament venues is still awaited. In such a situation, the Indian team’s matches being held in the UAE is a possible arrangement, not a final decision.
