CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Bhopal: Amid recent diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions between Iran and the United States, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has claimed that his government played an important role in helping establish dialogue between the two countries. Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan maintained contacts at multiple levels behind the scenes for regional peace and stability and helped create an atmosphere for talks.
Following the prime minister’s statement, political debate has intensified in Pakistan. Leaders backing the government have described it as a diplomatic success for Pakistan, while opposition parties have questioned the claim and demanded that the government make concrete evidence public. The opposition says that if Pakistan did in fact play the role of a mediator, clear information should be provided at the official level.
Experts believe that during rising tensions in West Asia, Pakistan remained in contact with the United States, Iran and other regional countries. However, no side has so far formally acknowledged Pakistan as a mediator. Even so, Shehbaz Sharif’s statement is being seen as an important political message for Pakistan’s foreign policy.
According to political analysts, the Pakistan government, which is grappling with economic and internal challenges, is trying to strengthen its domestic image by highlighting its active role on the international stage. The opposition, meanwhile, says the move is an attempt to gain political advantage.
For now, attention remains on any further official statements from Iran, the United States and Pakistan. If Pakistan’s role receives international recognition, it could be seen as a major diplomatic achievement for the Shehbaz government, but debate over the claim is continuing for now.
