CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: “Both books of Khayal Sangrah are rare collections of ancient traditional bandishes of the Gwalior gharana, the oldest gharana of classical music. They are also a bright symbol of the Indian knowledge tradition. These two collections do not only discuss classical music; they also reveal the living relationship between folk and shastra. References to khayal, nautanki, maach, chang, baithak and various other forms prevalent in folk traditions indicate that in Indian culture, shastra and folk are not opposed to each other, but are dimensions that enrich one another. Shastra draws energy from folk, and folk draws permanence from shastra. This mutual dialogue has made Indian music timeless,” said Santosh Choubey, Chancellor of Rabindranath Tagore University and Director, Vishwarang.

He was addressing the release ceremony of two books, Khayal Sangrah, a collection of ancient traditional bandishes of the Gwalior gharana authored by Pandit Krishna Narayan Tailang. The two books, published in an attractive format, have been brought out by AISECT Publication, Bhopal.
