CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News /Agencies/ Bhopal: CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News / Agencies: Political rhetoric has intensified in Uttar Pradesh ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections. BJP state president Pankaj Chaudhary has targeted Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav over his statement that he will not contest the Assembly election and will directly become chief minister. Calling Akhilesh a “battlefield deserter”, he said Akhilesh first issued a challenge and is now retreating from the field himself.

In a post on social media platform X, Pankaj Chaudhary wrote that Akhilesh used to issue challenges, but is now backing away from contesting elections. He asked whether Akhilesh would now take the oath as chief minister directly from the Lok Sabha. The BJP state president also alleged that when the Samajwadi Party was in power, Akhilesh was afraid to go to Noida, and now he is avoiding contesting elections.

Earlier, during a visit to Varanasi, Akhilesh Yadav had said that he would not contest the 2027 Assembly election. Citing his past political experience, he had said that in 2012 too he became chief minister while serving as a Lok Sabha MP. According to him, he will do this time as well whatever is auspicious for him. He had also said that contesting an Assembly election is not necessary to become chief minister.

Om Prakash Rajbhar also challenged him to contest. Uttar Pradesh cabinet minister and Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party president Om Prakash Rajbhar also took a dig at Akhilesh Yadav’s statement. He said leaders do not run away from elections and Akhilesh should show the courage to contest from any one Assembly seat. Rajbhar sarcastically asked whether he has begun to see defeat in the election and is therefore leaving the field. He also commented on Akhilesh’s remark related to superstition. After this statement, the war of words between the BJP and the SP in Uttar Pradesh politics has intensified further.
