CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal:The Parsi Punchayat, one of Mumbai’s oldest community institutions, has raised alarm over the deteriorating condition of the Mumbai–Talasari highway stretch, calling it nothing short of a “highway to hell.” In a formal letter to Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, the Punchayat highlighted the plight of commuters who frequently travel this route, especially during festive visits to Udvada and other community pilgrimage centers.
The letter detailed how potholes, uneven surfaces, poor signage, and unlit stretches have made the road hazardous. Community leaders warned that the stretch between Mumbai and Talasari has become accident-prone, with frequent traffic snarls and life-threatening conditions for motorists.
Calling for urgent intervention, the Punchayat appealed to Gadkari’s ministry to direct immediate repairs and long-term upgrades to ensure safer travel. “The situation is unacceptable, and what should be a smooth journey of a few hours often turns into a nightmare,” the letter reportedly stated.
The issue has also raised concerns beyond the Parsi community, as the stretch is a critical link for trade, tourism, and daily commuters. Locals have echoed similar complaints about delays, accidents, and inadequate maintenance.
Minister Gadkari, known for his strong push for infrastructure modernization, is yet to issue an official response. However, officials indicated that the ministry may seek a report from the concerned state authorities.
The Punchayat’s move underscores the increasing public frustration with poor infrastructure and the growing demand for accountability in road safety across India.
