In the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) was signed in Jaipur between the governments of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and the Centre for the Parvati-Kalisindh-Chambal Link Project. Madhya Pradesh’s Water Resources Minister, Tulsiram Silawat, expressed gratitude to PM Modi, Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, and Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma for their support.
Minister Silawat stated that this project will unlock new avenues of development in both states. It will not only ensure adequate water for irrigation and drinking but also boost industrial and tourism growth, creating new employment opportunities. He emphasized that under the leadership of CM Dr. Mohan Yadav, the project will be completed in Madhya Pradesh within the stipulated timeframe, maintaining high quality standards.
Calling the project a blessing for the state, Silawat said it will transform the Malwa and Chambal regions, bringing significant social and economic progress. The project will facilitate irrigation across 613,520 hectares and provide drinking water to 4 million people in the Malwa and Chambal regions.
Additionally, modernization work on the nearly 60-year-old Chambal Right Main Canal and distribution system will provide water for agricultural demands in 1,205 villages across Bhind, Morena, and Sheopur districts, benefiting 362,000 hectares of land.
A total of 3,217 villages in 13 districts of Madhya Pradesh, including Guna, Morena, Shivpuri, Bhind, Sheopur, Ujjain, Sehore, Mandsaur, Indore, Dhar, Agar Malwa, Shajapur, and Rajgarh, will benefit from the project. The Parvati-Kalisindh-Chambal Link Project is seen as a boon for farmers and citizens in both Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. Farmers will gain access to abundant irrigation water, doubling crop yields and fostering prosperity in the region.
The estimated cost of the project is ₹72,000 crore, with Madhya Pradesh contributing ₹35,000 crore and Rajasthan ₹37,000 crore. The central government will fund 90% of the total cost, while the states will cover the remaining 10%.
