CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Effective Use of Physiotherapy in Elderly Care Highlighted at BMHRC Workshop A three-day training workshop was organized at Bhopal Memorial Hospital and Research Centre (BMHRC) to educate physiotherapists from various government hospitals across the state on how to effectively use physiotherapy in elderly care and alleviate their discomfort.

The training is being conducted under the National Programme for Health Care of the Elderly (NPHCE), a part of the National Health Mission (NHM). Renowned physiotherapists from Bhopal and BMHRC are providing the training to participants. The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. Manisha Srivastava, Acting Director of BMHRC, Sharad Tiwari, Additional Director of NPHCE, Ruby Khan, Deputy Director of NHM’s Hemoglobinopathy Mission, and Dr. Sandeep Sorte, Head of the Neurosurgery Department at BMHRC.

Dr. Manisha Srivastava emphasized the critical role of physiotherapy in treating ailments and improving the quality of life for the elderly. She explained how physiotherapy can alleviate joint pain, muscle stiffness, and arthritis while enhancing strength and mobility for conditions such as stroke, Parkinson’s, and respiratory issues.

For the first time, hemoglobinopathies were included in physiotherapist training, with a dedicated session on the topic. Dr. Srivastava highlighted the importance of physiotherapy in managing sickle cell anemia, aiding in the relief of severe pain and improving patients’ quality of life. Physiotherapy also plays a key role in strengthening muscles, making it an essential component in the management of chronic conditions among the elderly.
