CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Plastic Pollution: A Global Crisis – Bhabha University Leads by Example

This year’s World Environment Day theme, “Beat Plastic Pollution”, has sparked a wave of concern across the globe. Recent scientific reports have revealed alarming findings: microplastics, or ultra-fine plastic particles, are now being detected not only in our rivers, oceans, air, and soil but even in the human brain.

Amid this environmental crisis, Bhabha University, Bhopal, has set a remarkable example for society by undertaking inspiring initiatives toward environmental conservation.

Innovative Initiatives by Bhabha University

🔹 Eco-Bricks: Creative Reuse of Plastic Waste

Students filled plastic waste into bottles to create eco-bricks, which were then used to build benches, walls, and decorative structures within the campus. This initiative not only recycled plastic waste but also made students more environmentally responsible.

🔹 Tree Ambulance: A Unique Service for Plant Care

Through its “Tree Ambulance” service, the university provides special care to weakened or damaged trees using organic nutrients, irrigation, and treatment methods to revive them.

🔹 Tree Plantation and Green Campus Drive

Under the “One Student – One Plant” pledge, thousands of trees were planted in and around the campus. Green technologies such as organic fertilizers, rainwater harvesting, and solar energy have also been adopted.

Student Voices Echo in Parliament

Students from Bhabha University earned first place in a state-level speech competition and went on to present their views at the national level in the Indian Parliament. These young voices passionately addressed key issues like plastic-free living, sustainable development, and policy recommendations directly to lawmakers and parliamentarians.
