CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Prime Minister Narendra Modi departed for Bangkok, Thailand’s capital, earlier today. He will attend the BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) Summit, hosted at the Shangri-La Hotel in Bangkok. This year, Thailand is hosting the summit.
Before leaving for Bangkok, PM Modi issued a statement saying, “I am traveling on an official visit to Thailand today and will participate in the 6th BIMSTEC Summit. Over the past decade, BIMSTEC has emerged as a crucial platform for promoting regional development, connectivity, and economic progress in the Bay of Bengal region. With its geographical position, India’s northeastern region is at the heart of BIMSTEC. I look forward to meeting the leaders of BIMSTEC nations and strengthening cooperation in the interest of our people.”
A Strong Foundation of Spiritual Ideologies
He further added, “During my official visit, I will have the opportunity to engage in discussions with Thailand’s Prime Minister, Paetongtarn Shinawatra, and other Thai leaders. Our talks will focus on deepening our centuries-old historical ties, which are rooted in shared culture, philosophy, and strong spiritual ideologies. From Thailand, I will proceed to Sri Lanka for a two-day visit from April 4-6. This follows the highly successful visit of President Dissanayake to India last December. We will review progress on our joint vision of ‘Fostering Partnership for a Shared Future’ and provide further guidance to achieve our common goals. I am confident that these visits will build upon past foundations and contribute to strengthening our close ties for the benefit of our people and the broader region.”
Official Reception at Thailand’s Government House
According to Thailand’s newspaper The Nation, Prime Minister’s Office spokesperson Jirayu Huangsap stated that PM Modi is visiting Thailand on an official trip from April 3-4 at the invitation of Thailand’s Prime Minister, Paetongtarn Shinawatra. On April 3, PM Paetongtarn will officially welcome his Indian counterpart at the Government House. Following this, both leaders will hold discussions with their respective delegations, followed by the signing of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs). A joint press conference will take place thereafter. Around 1 PM, the Thai Prime Minister will host a luncheon in honor of PM Modi.
