CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday, October 24, 2026, greeted all Himveers on the occasion of the 65th Raising Day of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP). He praised the bravery, determination and selfless service of the force’s personnel in protecting the country’s borders, saying their dedication and sacrifice are a source of inspiration for the entire nation.
Saluting the courage of the Himveers, Prime Minister Modi said in a message on social media platform X that ITBP personnel have shown exceptional bravery. He said they have faced every challenge with firm resolve. Their selfless service and sacrifice are inspiring for the nation. The Prime Minister’s message expressed respect for the personnel who remain deployed to protect the country’s borders despite difficult terrain and adverse weather conditions.
The Indo-Tibetan Border Police was established on October 24, 1962, after the India-China war. The force’s main responsibility is to monitor and secure the India-China border. ITBP personnel are deployed in difficult Himalayan regions from Ladakh to Arunachal Pradesh. Many border posts are located at altitudes ranging from 9,000 feet to more than 18,000 feet above sea level, where personnel have to work in extreme cold and harsh conditions.
Along with border security, ITBP personnel also play an important role in relief and rescue operations during natural disasters. In landslides, snowfall and other emergencies in Himalayan regions, the force’s trained personnel assist people. In addition, they are assigned internal security duties and other essential responsibilities in different parts of the country.
The Prime Minister’s message on Raising Day is also an occasion to honour the contribution of personnel deployed in the country’s security and the dedication of their families. The courage, discipline and devotion to duty of the Himveers are an important part of the national security system.
