Dehradun. Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a special mention of 83-year-old Purnima Rawat of Mana village in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district during the 138th edition of ‘Mann Ki Baat’ on Sunday. He said the first phase of Census 2027 began in Mana, considered the country’s first village, by recording information from Purnima Rawat.
Mana is located in Uttarakhand’s border and difficult terrain. Despite snowfall and challenging geographical conditions, census work is being carried out there. Referring to the recording of information from Purnima Rawat, the Prime Minister underlined the reach of administrative and census systems to remote areas.
The Prime Minister also mentioned Bagori village in Uttarkashi district. There, homestay operator Hardev Singh Rana took part in self-enumeration by digitally recording his own information. Through these examples, Modi stressed citizens’ participation in the census and the use of digital facilities. The Prime Minister appealed to citizens to provide correct information in the census. According to him, information on more than 32 crore families has so far been recorded in the first phase of the census. He described it as important for preparing an accurate picture of the country’s future.
