CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The government’s Pradhan Mantri Skilling and Employability Transformation through Upgraded ITIs (PM-SETU) initiative is set to strengthen industrial training infrastructure, with an investment of ₹440 crore earmarked for upgrading Industrial Training Institute (ITI) clusters in Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh. The initiative aims to modernise vocational education, improve practical training facilities and make young people more employable in emerging industrial sectors.

Under the programme, selected ITI clusters are expected to receive upgraded workshops, modern equipment and improved training infrastructure. The focus is on aligning vocational courses with the changing requirements of industries, including manufacturing, engineering, automation and other technology-driven fields.

The initiative seeks to bridge the gap between classroom learning and workplace requirements by encouraging industry participation in training, curriculum development and skill assessment. Improved facilities and hands-on learning opportunities can help trainees develop practical skills that employers increasingly demand.

Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh are important industrial and manufacturing centres, making industry-linked vocational training particularly relevant. Modernising ITIs in these states could help local businesses access a better-trained workforce while providing young people with stronger pathways to employment and apprenticeships.

PM-SETU is part of the broader effort to transform India’s vocational training ecosystem through collaboration among government institutions, industry partners and training providers. The programme aims to make ITIs more responsive to technological changes and labour-market needs.

The impact of the ₹440 crore investment will depend on the timely completion of infrastructure upgrades, the availability of qualified instructors and sustained partnerships with employers. Effective implementation could strengthen vocational education and support India’s wider objectives of skill development, industrial growth and employment generation.
