CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News /Agencies/ Delhi: New Delhi: The controversy over Bageshwar Dham chief Pandit Dhirendra Krishna Shastri’s statement about Lord Shri Krishna is growing. Pappu Yadav, MP from Purnea in Bihar, reached Delhi’s Parliament Street Police Station on Tuesday, November 3, and submitted a complaint demanding registration of an FIR against him. Yadav alleged that Shastri’s remarks had hurt the religious sentiments of devotees of Lord Shri Krishna and crores of people.
The controversy began during a Shriram Katha organised at Karera in Shivpuri district of Madhya Pradesh. On October 29, during the katha, Dhirendra Shastri made certain remarks while comparing the forms of Lord Shri Ram and Shri Krishna. Referring to Shri Krishna’s tribhanga posture, flute and Vrindavan, he said Shri Ram stands straight, while Shri Krishna stands bent at three places. Protests began after a video of the remark circulated on social media.
Pappu Yadav said in a social media post that an insult to Lord Shri Krishna would not be tolerated and that he would demand legal action in the matter. He has sought action under Section 299 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which relates to deliberately hurting religious sentiments.
After the controversy escalated, Dhirendra Shastri issued a video message offering a clarification and apology. He said his remark was not intended to draw a distinction between Lord Shri Ram and Shri Krishna or to insult anyone. He said that if anyone’s sentiments had been hurt by his words, he sought forgiveness.
For now, Pappu Yadav has submitted a complaint and demanded an FIR. The position on further police action on the complaint is yet to be clarified.
