CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: New Delhi. An issue over permission has emerged between the Congress and Delhi Police over the proposed “public impeachment” programme against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The Congress had planned to organise the programme on 30 October, but according to the party, permission was not granted for either Ashoka Hotel or Ramlila Maidan. The information came to light on 27 October 2026.

After Ashoka Hotel, Ramlila Maidan was considered as an alternative. According to Congress general secretary KC Venugopal, the programme was initially planned at Ashoka Hotel. After permission was not granted, the party chose the option of holding it at Ramlila Maidan, but approval was not received there either. Venugopal claimed the party had permission for Ramlila Maidan from 25 October to 3 November.

On the other hand, citing Delhi Police sources, it was reported that the no-objection certificate (NOC) issued for the Congress rally had not been withdrawn. The official version of the police had not come out by the time the report was published.

The Congress and the INDIA alliance are preparing to hold a mega rally at Ramlila Maidan on 1 November with the slogan “Save Vote, Save Country”. The party has been raising questions over the special intensive revision (SIR) of the voters’ list and alleged irregularities in the electoral process. Congress leaders have said they will continue the campaign and raise the issue of electoral transparency at the national level.
