A case has come to light in Raipur, the capital of Chhattisgarh, in which a police escort was allegedly provided to the luxury-car convoy of a jewellery trader. In a video viral on social media, a white police Scorpio is seen moving ahead of the convoy. Some bouncers travelling in the cars behind are seen leaning out of the windows and performing stunts.
It was stated that the convoy belonged to jewellery trader and Jewar Mahal operator Kartik Giri. After the video surfaced, questions have begun to be raised over the role of the police and the use of government resources. The biggest question is on what basis police piloting was provided to the convoy of a private businessman, and which officer had granted permission for it.
The video also shows people leaning out of moving cars and performing stunts. Such activities on a public road can pose a threat to the safety of other motorists and pedestrians. In this situation, questions are also being raised over traffic-rule violations despite the presence of a police vehicle.
For now, no official statement has come from the police department in the matter. The position is yet to be clarified on permission for the police escort and action against those who performed the stunts.
