CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News /Agencies/ Delhi: New Delhi: An unusual situation was seen outside Delhi Police Headquarters on Monday when police personnel gathered to protest against the transfers of officers from their own department, while police force itself was deployed to stop them. Personnel who assembled near Gate No. 1 raised slogans and staged a protest, demanding that the transfers be withdrawn. During this, senior officers tried to persuade the protesters and urged them to come inside the headquarters for talks.

Reports said around 80 to 100 police personnel took part in the protest. Women police personnel were also among them. The protesters were demanding that ACP Manasvi Vashisht and the then SHO of Shahdara police station, Inspector Arun Kumar, be sent back to their previous postings. New Delhi DCP Sachin Sharma reached the spot and asked the personnel to maintain discipline and place their views before senior officers instead of protesting on the road. However, the protesters pressed for a contact meeting with the Police Commissioner.

The dispute began with a clash between lawyers and police personnel at Shahdara police station on October 23. During this, advocate Lalit Bansal was reported to have suffered a head injury. After the incident, lawyers of the district courts began an indefinite strike. Subsequently, on October 28, ACP Manasvi Vashisht and Inspector Arun Kumar were transferred, after which the lawyers called off the strike.

These transfers caused discontent among a section of the police department. Police personnel are now demanding that their side also be heard in the matter and that the transfers of both officers be reconsidered.
