CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Resolving life’s complexities is possible through positive thinking. Among today’s youth, irregular routines, repeated failures, unhealthy comparisons with peers, and persistent negative thoughts are increasing the tendency toward depression, which sometimes results in tragic acts such as suicide. These views were expressed by Dr. Deepa Jain, a renowned psychiatrist with the National Health Service (NHS) England, during a session organized at Babulal Gaur Government Postgraduate College, BHEL Bhopal. The programme was part of a national campaign run by the National Task Force to curb the growing trend of student suicides.
In the workshop titled “Mental Depression: An Invisible Struggle”, jointly organised by the Department of Sociology and the National Service Scheme (NSS), the keynote speaker and psychiatrist Dr. Deepa Jain stated that irregular routines, sadness, and hiding inner pain and suffering only intensify depression. She emphasized that we must share our problems and find solutions collectively. Unemployment, repeated failures, peer comparison, sleeplessness, and negative thoughts often lead to incidents like suicide. These situations can be prevented through positive thinking and reflection.

She added that life is a struggle—falling, rising again, and remaining patient and focused on one’s goals leads to achievement. Young people should avoid stress and anxiety over small matters. On this occasion, students received answers to their queries and also availed one-on-one guidance for personal issues in a separate counseling room. Everyone appreciated Dr. Deepa’s simple, clear, and meaningful address, and many girl students openly discussed and resolved their personal concerns.
Dr. Charulata Rathore, Head of the Zoology Department and Acting Principal, said that this guidance will encourage young people toward a healthy lifestyle and positive thinking.
College Nodal Officer of the National Task Force, Dr. Archana Gaur, and Head of the Sociology Department, Dr. Archana Sharma, thanked Dr. Deepa Jain, stating that counseling therapy works as effectively as medication. In this context, Principal Dr. Sanjay Jain informed that the college provides free counseling by a subject expert every Monday and Tuesday from 12 PM onwards. Many students are already benefiting from this service. This facility is also available for the general public, who may visit the college during the scheduled hours to receive free counseling.
