CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The Postal Department, utilizing the latest technologies in the courier, express, and parcel (CEP) market, has launched a Proof of Concept (POC) for sending mail via drones between Chaukham Post Office and Wakro Branch in Arunachal Pradesh. Chaukham Post Office is located in Namsai district, while the Wakro Branch is in Lohit district. At 10:40 AM, a drone carrying mail took off from Chaukham Post Office and landed at Wakro Branch at 11:02 AM. On its return trip, the drone departed from Wakro at 11:44 AM and landed back at Chaukham Post Office at 12:08 PM.

The Postal Department partnered with Sky Air Mobility Private Limited for this POC operation. The Wakro Branch is 45 kilometers away from Chaukham Post Office. Due to the hilly terrain, it typically takes about two to two and a half hours for mail to reach Wakro from Chaukham, usually transported by Arunachal Pradesh State Transport Services buses. However, using an eco-friendly drone, it took only 22 to 24 minutes to deliver the mail from Chaukham to Wakro. This not only reduces delivery time but also enhances the department’s reliability and real-time tracking capability in difficult mountainous regions.
