CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Actor Prakash Raj has supported a protest in Karnataka against the Special Intensive Revision, or SIR, of the voter list. He appealed to people to turn up in large numbers at Freedom Park in Bengaluru on October 8. The event is being organised by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) and various citizens’ and youth organisations.
In a social media post, Prakash Raj said people who claim to have been affected by the SIR process will share their problems and evidence at the event. Appealing to citizens to join the campaign, he described it as an issue linked to democracy. According to him, youth organisations, representatives of civil society and people from various districts of Karnataka will take part in the programme.
A “People’s Tribunal” on SIR is scheduled to be held first at Freedom Park, followed by a proposed “Chappal Protest” by the CJP. The organisers allege that the names of eligible voters have been removed from the voter list during the SIR and are demanding restoration of the old voter list. The Election Commission, meanwhile, says the purpose of the revision is to remove ineligible and duplicate names and retain eligible voters on the list.
