CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Aichi-Nagoya. Indian golfer Pranavi Urs produced a superb performance at the Asian Games 2026, winning the gold medal in women’s individual golf. With this victory, she became the first Indian to win the women’s individual golf gold in Asian Games history. The 23-year-old Pranavi held her nerve despite pressure in the final round and delivered a historic achievement for India.
Pranavi finished with a score of 15-under 265 after four rounds, one shot ahead of China’s Yin Ruoning and Singapore’s Shannon Tan, who finished second. Pranavi began the final round with a three-shot lead, but a triple bogey on the third hole wiped out her advantage. She then staged a strong comeback with three birdies. A crucial par on the final hole sealed the gold medal for her.
Pranavi’s achievement also ended India’s 24-year wait for a golf gold medal at the Asian Games. India had last won gold in golf in 2002, when Shiv Kapur claimed the men’s individual title. Before this, India’s best performance in women’s golf was Aditi Ashok’s silver medal at the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games.
Along with the individual gold, Pranavi also played a key role in helping India win the silver medal in the team event. The Indian team of Aditi Ashok, Diksha Dagar and Pranavi scored 14-under 546 and finished second behind China. The Asian Games 2026 thus became memorable for Pranavi with two medals.
