CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Bhopal: A meeting was held under the chairmanship of Collector Priyank Mishra regarding preparedness ahead of pre-monsoon floods and natural disasters.

At the meeting, preparations made so far and the work to be undertaken by all concerned departments during a flood disaster were reviewed. He directed all departments to complete their respective preparations with the objective of ensuring that no kind of disaster arises during the monsoon. Preparations for demarcation of potentially flood-affected or sensitive areas in rural and urban regions, along with safety arrangements, should be completed in time.

He directed that flood control committees be formed at the sub-divisional and tehsildar levels and meetings be held to ensure identification of proposed relief camps in emergency situations, along with maintenance of records for drinking water, electricity, medicines and other essentials. The Police and Home Guard departments were instructed to review the availability of motorboats, flood relief materials and trained police personnel in the district, prepare a list of swimmers, and appoint a nodal officer for coordination with the District Control Command Center.

A district-level disaster management control room has been set up in the district and helpline numbers have been issued. Under this arrangement, in situations of natural disaster, the District Disaster Control Room at the Municipal Corporation office and the Fire Control Room at PHQ Chauraha can be contacted on telephone numbers 0755-2540220, 2701401 and 2542222.

All major department officials were instructed to create a WhatsApp group for disaster management so that information can be exchanged on time and the concerned officers can take action within the prescribed time limit. The PWD department was directed to ensure repair of damaged roads in the district, prepare a list of small and big bridges and culverts, and install warning boards at dangerous locations. Along with this, the Mineral Department was instructed to ensure fencing of mines and deep water bodies and installation of warning boards.

The Municipal Corporation and Berasia Municipality were directed to carry out a drain-cleaning campaign and ensure preparedness for natural disasters before the monsoon. They were also instructed to identify temporary shelters and relief camps in the event of floods, ensure arrangements for essential services, and prepare a list of NGOs, social organisations and socially active citizens for coordination for necessary assistance.

Instructions were also issued at the district and sub-divisional levels to the administration, Municipal Corporation, Police Department and SDRF to establish control rooms and issue helpline numbers so that the general public can receive assistance in the event of a disaster.

During the meeting, SDMs, tehsildars, Municipal Corporation, SDRF, PWD, Health and officials of other departments from all subdivisions were present.
