CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Delhi: New Delhi, October 21: President Droupadi Murmu presented Lalit Kala Akademi awards to selected artists from the 65th National Exhibition of Art on Wednesday, calling for stronger support to help creative work reach a wider public.

At the New Delhi ceremony, she also felicitated the Grand Prize winners and Honourable Mentions of the third Print Biennale India, 2026.

Murmu said artists need more than opportunities to create. Financial support, access to markets and connections with collectors are also important. She urged stakeholders to help young and emerging artists develop their skills, experiment with new mediums and expand their creative work.

She emphasised training in contemporary techniques and new technologies for traditional artists in remote areas, so they can showcase their work on broader platforms. Art should reach schools, universities and public spaces rather than remain confined to galleries, she said.

The President described artistic expression as a way to understand cultural memory, present-day experiences and aspirations for the future.
