CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: “PM Modi Initiates Rs 1.25 Lakh Crore Semiconductor Projects in Gujarat and Assam, Envisioning ‘Made in India’ Self-Reliance”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually laid the foundation stone for three semiconductor facilities, collectively valued at approximately Rs 1.25 lakh crore, comprising two in Gujarat and one in Assam. During the ceremony, Modi emphasized that the production of ‘Made in India’ semiconductor chips would propel the nation towards self-reliance and modernity.

The three semiconductor projects launched include India’s inaugural Fab facility in Dholera, Gujarat, an Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) facility in Sanand, Gujarat, and another OSAT facility in Morigaon, Assam. The first phase of these facilities is anticipated to become operational by mid-2025.

Modi declared the occasion as historic, marking a significant stride towards a brighter future. He underscored India’s commitment to becoming a semiconductor manufacturing hub, contrasting it with the alleged lack of investment by previous UPA governments.

In a veiled criticism, Modi highlighted that despite the UPA governments being embroiled in scams worth thousands of crores, they failed to invest in the development of the semiconductor industry.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, present at the event in Jagiroad, expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for establishing the semiconductor facility in Assam. Sarma noted that the project, expected to attract an investment of Rs 27,000 crores, would generate employment for 30,000 young individuals in the state and its vicinity. He envisioned the project as a catalyst for economic prosperity in Assam, emphasizing that it marks the beginning of a new era.
