CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Prithvi Shaw, who once created a stir in Indian cricket with his explosive batting, is now struggling to make a comeback to Team India. On October 6, 2018, while making his Test debut against the West Indies in Rajkot, Shaw played a brilliant innings of 134 runs at the age of just 18 years and 329 days. He became the youngest Indian to score a century on Test debut.
After that start, Shaw was seen as a major prospect for Indian cricket. However, several difficulties, including injuries, poor form and a ban imposed in 2019 for a doping violation, affected his international career. He played his last international match for India in July 2021 during the tour of Sri Lanka. Since then, he has not been able to secure a place in Team India.
Shaw did not give up and continued trying to make his way back through domestic cricket. In the 2025-26 domestic season, he played a big innings of 222 runs for Maharashtra in the Ranji Trophy. After this, he was also selected in the West Zone Duleep Trophy squad, which was seen as an important opportunity for his career.
At present, Shaw’s name does not feature in India’s current T20 and ODI combinations. However, he continues to hope for a return to the national team by drawing the selectors’ attention through consistent improved performances.
