CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Private school management bodies across multiple states have raised strong objections to the assignment of election-related duties to teachers, arguing that it disrupts academic schedules and places undue administrative burden on educational institutions. School authorities contend that deputing teachers for polling work, training sessions, and counting duties adversely affects classroom teaching, especially during crucial academic periods.

Organizations such as National Independent Schools Alliance and Federation of Private Schools have urged the government and the Election Commission of India to reconsider the practice or provide alternative arrangements. They argue that private school teachers are not government employees and should not be routinely assigned such responsibilities without proper compensation or institutional safeguards.

Management representatives have also highlighted concerns over operational challenges, including staff shortages, rescheduling of exams, and disruption in curriculum completion. While acknowledging the importance of free and fair elections, they emphasize the need to balance civic duties with the continuity of education.

Officials from the Election Commission maintain that teachers play a crucial role in ensuring smooth electoral processes due to their administrative skills and neutrality. The issue has sparked a broader debate on policy reforms, compensation mechanisms, and the role of private institutions in public governance tasks.
