Priyank Kharge challenges BJP leaders to sing full Vande Mataram

CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Amid the political controversy in Karnataka over Vande Mataram, state Home Minister Priyank Kharge has challenged BJP leaders on the issue. Kharge said that if BJP leaders can sing all six stanzas of Vande Mataram without a teleprompter, he will resign from his post.

Kharge defended the Karnataka government’s decision under which the first two stanzas of Vande Mataram are to be sung at official programmes. He accused the BJP of raising the issue politically and said its leaders should first accept the challenge of singing the entire composition themselves.

Meanwhile, the Karnataka government’s decision on singing two stanzas has been challenged in the Karnataka High Court through a public interest litigation. The petition claims that the state government’s order is contrary to guidelines issued by the Centre. The matter is to be heard by the court.

A political debate over Vande Mataram is also underway in different parts of the country. Recent controversies have also emerged over its singing in the Gujarat Assembly and in Jammu and Kashmir.
