CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has intensified her attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in poll-bound Assam, accusing the ruling government of curbing freedom of speech and expression. Addressing a rally in Nazira, she alleged that welfare schemes are being misused to pressure citizens into attending political events and rallies.

According to her claims, beneficiaries—particularly women receiving financial assistance—are allegedly being compelled to attend events linked to Prime Minister Narendra Modi or state leadership, with implicit threats of losing benefits if they refuse. She emphasized that such practices undermine democratic rights and distort the purpose of public welfare schemes.

Gandhi further stated that the upcoming elections in Assam are not just political contests but a fight to safeguard cultural identity and constitutional freedoms. She also accused the BJP of intimidation tactics against opposition workers, claiming that some were forced to attend rallies under pressure.

These allegations come amid an intense political battle ahead of the 2026 Assam Assembly elections, where both Congress and BJP are aggressively campaigning to secure voter support. The BJP, however, has consistently denied such accusations and highlighted its governance and development agenda in the state.
