CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News / Agencies:
The Congress has stepped up its preparations for the 2027 Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh. Party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has once again taken charge of the party’s election campaign in the state. Her main objective is to resolve the seat-sharing complexity with the Samajwadi Party, while increasing the Congress’s political share and organisational strength.
At a meeting held in Delhi with senior Uttar Pradesh Congress leaders, the election strategy was discussed in detail. The party has drawn up a plan to form a manifesto committee, election management committee, Assembly campaign committee and alliance coordination committee for poll preparations. The names for these committees will be sent to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge for final approval.
Talks between the Congress and the SP on seat sharing are expected to be important. The Congress leadership is speaking of staking claim to 125 to 175 seats, while the SP wants seat distribution based on its electoral position and past performance. The Congress has also said it has prepared a list of 175 to 200 seats.
Priyanka Gandhi will try to maintain the balance of the alliance through direct communication with Akhilesh Yadav. The party’s strategy is to focus not only on the number of seats, but on regions where the Congress has better chances of winning. Preparations are also being made to hold four major rallies in Purvanchal, Awadh, Bundelkhand and western Uttar Pradesh.
