CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: A popular science lecture on the theme “The Quest for a Unified Theory” was successfully organized at the Regional Science Centre, Bhopal, and delivered by world-renowned physicist Prof. Ashoke Sen (ICTS–TIFR, Bengaluru).
Prof. Sen is among the world’s leading theoretical physicists. For his outstanding contributions to string theory and quantum gravity, he has been honoured with several prestigious national and international awards, including the Padma Bhushan, the Dirac Medal, and the Fundamental Physics Prize.
In his lecture, he shed light on scientific efforts to understand the fundamental laws of the universe in a unified framework, discussing topics such as elementary particles, string theory, quantum gravity, and black holes in a simple yet impactful manner.

Addressing students, Prof. Sen emphasized that at the stage of choosing a career, it is more important not merely to study, but to develop a deep understanding of concepts. He also underlined that clearly distinguishing between what is known and what remains unknown is the true beginning of knowledge.
The lecture was held in the auditorium of the Regional Science Centre, Bhopal, and witnessed significant participation from students, researchers, and citizens with an interest in science.
The event was organized as part of the 20th Asian Winter School hosted at IISER Bhopal, in collaboration with IISER Bhopal and ICTS–TIFR, Bengaluru, with support from the Murty Trust.
