CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Reviewing water supply, Collector Priyank Mishra directed officials to ensure uninterrupted and clean drinking water supply to citizens of the district under all circumstances. In view of the onset of the monsoon, he called for special attention to water quality. Mishra made it clear that, along with traditional water testing laboratories, the labs of the Pollution Control Board should also be fully utilised so that continuous and intensive testing maintains water purity. He also instructed officials to compile detailed information on main drinking water pipelines and map them on the GIS system to strengthen critical infrastructure, so that any leakage or sudden problem can be resolved immediately through technical measures.
Addressing the meeting, Collector Priyank Mishra stressed the sensitivity of water management and said, “Providing clean and adequate water to citizens is the most fundamental commitment and basic requirement of any welfare-oriented administration. In view of the upcoming rainy season, we need to remain extremely alert, vigilant and sensitive so that no unpleasant situation arises in any area. Every application received through water hearings should be resolved within the time limit with complete seriousness and quality, so that the public’s unwavering faith in the administration’s functioning is maintained.”
Emphasising creative development of water resources and environmental protection, Collector Mishra shared a distinctive approach. He said the district’s major water treatment plants and natural water sources could also be developed as places of interest and tourism centres, which would create public awareness about water conservation. In addition, he directed that a practical and long-term action plan be prepared under the Urban Challenge Fund to promote reuse of treated water and that work on it be started quickly, so that every drop of water can be utilised properly.
Describing citizen safety as paramount, Collector Priyank Mishra took a very strict stand on fire safety standards. He clearly directed that the administration would work on a “zero tolerance” policy regarding the issuance of fire NOCs and their strict compliance. He instructed that intensive inspections be conducted regularly in all educational institutions, commercial premises and multi-storey residential areas of the district, and that fire NOCs be ensured mandatorily. To assess actual preparedness for preventing fire incidents, he also called for effective mock drills to be held at regular intervals in different areas.
Municipal Corporation Additional Commissioner Tanmay Sharma, through a detailed presentation, gave point-wise information on the current status of water availability and the distribution system in Bhopal city. He informed the committee that various water treatment plants in the city are operating actively at full capacity and that firm arrangements are being ensured for smooth and uninterrupted water supply by continuously monitoring the actual status of all major water sources in the urban area.
