CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Students Remember Media Guru Pushpendra Pal Singh on His Birthday with Masterclass at Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism
On the occasion of the birthday of the late Pushpendra Pal Singh, former head of the Journalism Department at Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism, students paid tribute to their mentor. A masterclass was organized at Jagran Lakecity University (JLU), where senior journalist Mrityunjay Jha (Commodity Editor, Zee Business) and RJ Anadi engaged students on the challenges and opportunities in the media field, answering their questions and enriching their knowledge.
“PP Sir was everyone’s Guru” – Professor Divakar
Prof. Divakar of JLU emotionally remembered the media guru, saying, “Some images never fade; they connect us. He was everyone’s teacher. I remember our first meeting. Remembering him is living him again.” He added that Mr. Singh helped him understand an unfamiliar city and academic environment and continued teaching students even outside the classroom.

VC Prof. Vivek Khare on PP Sir’s Personality
Chief Guest and Pro Vice Chancellor Prof. Vivek Khare recalled, “You can only understand Pushpendra Pal Singh’s personality by meeting him. He taught that no matter how good a teacher you are, being a good human being is paramount. He demonstrated this every moment. He was always positive and taught students beyond the classroom.”
Podcast as a Mainstream Medium – RJ Anadi
The event’s key speaker, RJ Anadi, said, “When students came facing difficulties, Sir provided shade like a banyan tree of solutions. Radio is a medium to maintain engagement in a fixed time; podcasts follow the same principle but allow for more detail. Started in 2004, podcasts have now entered the mainstream. This is a golden opportunity for students to start their own podcasts on any topic. Students must first identify their strengths and interests to avoid wasting energy gathering information.”

Content Needs Both Humanity and Humor – Mrityunjay Jha
Former student and Commodity Editor at Zee Business, Mrityunjay Kumar Jha, shared practical insights on news writing. He said, “Whether content is 30 seconds long or 300 words in print, sharpness must be practiced during media studies. Common sense is crucial in journalism.” He emphasized that all journalistic work begins with writing, and reading is essential for effective writing; everything else can be learned.
The event was hosted by Tripti Shukla, with a vote of thanks delivered by Ritesh Purohit.
