CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Piles is a common health problem, but many people begin treatment on the basis of home remedies or advice from people without medical qualifications instead of consulting a qualified doctor. A recent incident in Kanpur has highlighted the serious risks of such practices.

In Kanpur, a patient suffering from piles allegedly applied heat with a hot stone on the advice of a local quack. During the process, a stone weighing about one-and-a-half kilograms entered the body. After the patient’s condition deteriorated, he was taken to Ursla District Hospital, where an X-ray showed the stone. Doctors then removed it through surgery.

According to experts, inserting a hot stone or any object into a sensitive part of the body is not a recognised medical treatment for piles. It can cause serious complications such as injury, burns, bleeding, infection and damage to internal organs.

Treatment for piles is decided according to the patient’s condition and the severity of the disease. In early cases, doctors usually advise a fibre-rich diet, adequate water intake, prevention of constipation and avoiding excessive straining during bowel movements. If required, doctors may also prescribe medicines or other medical treatments.

In severe cases, or where bleeding occurs repeatedly, specialist treatment may be needed and surgery may be required in some situations. If there is continuous or heavy bleeding from the anus, severe pain, fever, signs of infection or repeated recurrence of the problem, it is important to get examined by a qualified doctor. If symptoms of piles appear, no object, hot substance or home remedy should be used inside the body without medical advice.
