Rabi Campaign 2026 Focuses on Water, Seeds and Crop Planning

Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan, addressing the two-day National Agriculture Conference – Rabi Campaign 2026 that began in New Delhi, called upon states to complete preparations for the rabi season on time. He said that in view of climate change, uncertain rainfall and water scarcity, agricultural planning will now have to be prepared in a scientific and data-based manner. Describing the water budget as a key basis for rabi crop planning, Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that in areas where water availability is low, priority should be given to pulses and oilseed crops that require less water. Referring to the drought situation in Maharashtra and Karnataka, he said central teams will assess the ground situation in these states.

The Union minister stressed timely sowing, the availability of quality seeds and strengthening the system for their distribution. He spoke about increasing pulses and oilseed cultivation in areas that remain vacant after paddy and ensuring assured market arrangements for farmers. He also called for giving priority to balanced use of fertilisers, natural farming, Kisan Credit Cards and Farmer IDs. States were asked to review crops, diseases, sowing and market prices every week and increase real-time monitoring.
