CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Former Prime Minister Rabi Lamichhane was arrested from his residence in Kathmandu last night and flown to Bhairahawa this morning.
His arrest comes after the High Court canceled his bail in connection with a cooperative fraud case.
Rabi Lamichhane, who was taken into custody from his residence at midnight on Friday, was flown to Bhairahawa on Saturday morning. The former Prime Minister had been out on bail in a multi-crore rupee cooperative scam. On Friday, the High Court rejected his bail plea and ordered his arrest, directing that he be sent to judicial custody.
Kathmandu Police SP Apil Bohora stated that following the court’s order, Lamichhane was arrested from his residence and handed over to Bhairahawa Police.
Meanwhile, Bhairahawa Police SP Somendra Singh Rathore informed that, since the court is closed on Saturday and Sunday, Rabi Lamichhane will be presented in court on Monday. After the court proceedings, he will be placed in judicial custody.
