CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News /Agencies/ Delhi: New Delhi. Ahead of the INDIA bloc rally proposed at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan on November 1, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has alleged that people coming to Delhi from other states are being stopped. He accused Union Home Minister Amit Shah of trying to obstruct the movement of people who want to attend the rally. However, these allegations have been made by the Opposition and have not been independently verified.

Speaking to the media in Delhi on October 30 along with leaders of the Opposition alliance, Rahul Gandhi said ordinary citizens and party workers from various states, including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana, Telangana and Punjab, want to come to attend the rally, but attempts are being made to stop them. He said the situation would become clear from the number of people who gather at Ramlila Maidan on November 1.

Rahul Gandhi also appealed to social organisations, civil society, students and people who raise their voice in favour of protecting democracy and the Constitution, apart from political parties, to join the rally. He described it not as the programme of any one political party, but as a movement with broad public participation.

The rally is being organised in protest against alleged irregularities in the electoral process and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list. The Opposition alliance is questioning the role of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and demanding action against him.

Earlier, due to continuous rain, the proposed symbolic public impeachment programme against the Chief Election Commissioner had been postponed by a day. The programme will now be held on October 31 at the residence of Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge.
