CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News /Agencies/ Delhi: New Delhi: Ahead of the INDIA bloc’s mega rally at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan on November 1, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi appealed to people across the country to join it. He called on students, farmers, workers, women, youth and traders to take part in the ‘Chalo Delhi’ march. Rahul Gandhi said this was not an event of any one political party, but a shared citizens’ demonstration linked to protecting democracy and the Constitution.
In a message issued on social media, Rahul Gandhi alleged that people’s names were being removed from voter lists and that rules had been violated in the election process. Describing it as an issue of “vote theft”, he said citizens should raise their voice to protect their voting rights. Through this demonstration, the INDIA bloc is questioning the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process and demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Rahul Gandhi specifically appealed to student organisations to rise above political ideology and join the march. He said people did not need to fear the possibility of police action or lathi-charge. According to him, the march is being organised with the objective of protecting freedom of expression, the Constitution and the country’s democratic system.
After Rahul Gandhi’s appeal ahead of the mega rally, the opposition alliance intensified efforts to turn it into a programme with broad public participation. However, the response of the Election Commission and the parties concerned is also important on the allegations related to the voter list and SIR.
