CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The Bombay High Court has discharged actor-producer Rahul Raj Singh from the charge of abetment to suicide in the case linked to the 2016 death of television actress Pratyusha Banerjee. Following the court’s decision, the trial against Rahul in this case will not proceed. Pratyusha was known for playing Anandi in “Balika Vadhu.”

Pratyusha was found dead on April 1, 2016, at her rented flat in Goregaon, Mumbai. Her parents had filed a complaint accusing Rahul Raj Singh of mental, physical and financial harassment and abetment to suicide. Police had filed a chargesheet in the matter. Rahul had earlier filed a discharge plea before the sessions court, which was rejected in August 2023. He then approached the High Court.

The High Court considered the last conversation between Rahul and Pratyusha, held shortly before her death, to be significant. Lawyers appearing for Rahul argued that in the conversation, he was persuading Pratyusha not to take any extreme step and was saying that he was turning his car back to meet her. In its decision, the court treated this conversation as important in the context of the charge of abetment to suicide. Rahul had also been granted anticipatory bail in the case in 2016. After the High Court’s present order, he will not have to face trial in this case. Reports said the detailed order would be made available later.
