CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News /Agencies/ Bhopal: Raigarh schools remain closed today as rain affects paddy crop

Rain continued for the second consecutive day in Chhattisgarh’s Raigarh district under the impact of a cyclone. In view of the weather conditions, a holiday has been declared in the district’s schools today as well. Continuous rain has affected normal life, while fields in rural areas have been flooded. This has increased fears of damage to the paddy crop.

Water has accumulated in several agricultural areas because of the rain. As the paddy crop is standing in the fields at this time, waterlogging has increased farmers’ concerns. If water remains in the fields for a long period, it may affect both the quality and production of the crop. Farmers are now waiting for the weather to clear and for water to drain from the fields.

The weather in the district has remained unsettled due to the impact of the cyclone. With rain continuing for the second day, schools have been kept closed keeping children’s safety in mind. Earlier too, academic activities had been affected because of the weather conditions.

Continuous rain is affecting normal activities in both rural and urban areas. For farmers, the biggest concern at present is to protect the paddy crop. The actual extent of crop damage will become clear only after the weather improves and waterlogging reduces.
