CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News /Agencies/ Delhi: New Delhi. Due to continuous rain in Delhi, the opposition INDIA bloc has postponed its proposed public mock impeachment programme against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar by one day. The programme was earlier scheduled to be held on October 30, but in view of adverse weather conditions and rain, it has now been decided to hold it on October 31. The programme will take place at Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s residence in Delhi.
Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi said the alliance leaders had mutually agreed to move the programme forward by one day. He said the rain could have caused inconvenience to senior leaders and other participants, so it was decided to hold the event the next day at the same time and at the same venue. The programme is said to begin at 3:30 p.m.
Former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar will preside over the symbolic event. Mallikarjun Kharge will move the motion against the Chief Election Commissioner, while Rahul Gandhi will deliver the concluding remarks. Leaders of various INDIA bloc parties, representatives of civil society and people affected by the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls are likely to participate. Preparations had been made for representatives of at least 21 political parties and around 30 speakers to take part.
The opposition alliance had planned the programme as part of its protest over alleged irregularities in the electoral process and the SIR. The following day, on November 1, the alliance’s rally is proposed at Ramlila Maidan, where issues related to the electoral process will be raised under the ‘Save Vote, Save Nation’ campaign.
