Raipur: On the occasion of Mahavir Nirvana Day, the sale of meat and mutton will be completely banned in the Raipur Municipal Corporation area on Sunday, November 8, 2026. The Municipal Corporation’s Health Department has issued an order in this regard in compliance with the directions of the Urban Administration and Development Department of the Chhattisgarh government. Under the order, all slaughterhouses and meat and mutton shops in the city will remain closed.

The ban will not be limited only to shops. It will also apply to the sale of meat and mutton in hotels and restaurants. Municipal Corporation Mayor Meenal Choubey has directed strict compliance with the order. If any hotel, restaurant or other establishment is found selling meat and mutton despite the ban, the material will be seized on the spot. Legal action will also be taken as per rules against the person, establishment or institution concerned.

To make the ban effective, zonal health officers and zonal sanitation inspectors of the Municipal Corporation have been assigned responsibility for monitoring in their respective areas. The officers and inspectors will inspect meat and mutton shops as well as hotels and other related establishments.

The Municipal Corporation administration has appealed to all meat and mutton sellers, and hotel and restaurant operators, to comply with the order on the specified date. The ban will remain in force across the entire limits of Raipur Municipal Corporation.
