CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News /Agencies/ Bhopal: The municipal corporation in Raipur is preparing strict action against those who dump construction material or debris on roads and in drains. For this, the corporation has prepared a tough draft, in which a provision has been proposed to impose a fine of up to ₹1 lakh for violating the rules.
The aim of the initiative is to maintain cleanliness in the city and curb the problem of debris being spread in public places. Dumping debris generated during construction and demolition along roadsides or in drains causes inconvenience to the public. It can obstruct traffic and create blockages in drains. During rain, debris accumulated in drains can also worsen the problem of waterlogging. In this situation, the municipal corporation is moving towards tightening rules for the proper disposal of construction-related waste.
The prepared draft proposes a system of financial penalties for violators. However, the final amount of the fine, the date from which the rules will take effect and the detailed procedure for action will become clear only after the relevant notification and final rules are issued.
The purpose of the municipal corporation’s initiative is to make citizens, construction agencies and contractors responsible for not dumping debris in public places. If the proposal is implemented, action against those violating the rules may become stricter. For now, the completion of the further official process regarding the draft is awaited. Citizens have also been appealed to ensure that debris generated from construction is disposed of only at designated places, so that the city’s cleanliness and drainage system are not affected.
