CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: A social media post by MNS chief Raj Thackeray has sparked fresh discussion in Maharashtra politics. Raj Thackeray wrote, “A cow does not die from a crow’s curse. That is all for now…” After this, questions began being raised in political circles over whom he was referring to. However, Raj Thackeray did not directly name any leader or organisation in his post.
Thackeray’s remark came at a time when a political debate is under way over the Hindi language and Maharashtra’s multilingual identity. On the occasion of Hindi Diwas, at the sixth All India Official Language Conference held in Navi Mumbai, Union Home Minister Amit Shah described Maharashtra as a multilingual state and spoke of respecting languages such as Hindi, Konkani, Gujarati, Sindhi, Kannada and Warli along with Marathi.
Following this, some political analysts are viewing Raj Thackeray’s suggestive post in connection with the Hindi-Marathi language debate. However, it is not clear whether the post was made directly in response to Amit Shah’s statement.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde also spoke at the event about respect for the mother tongue and other Indian languages. Against this backdrop, Raj Thackeray’s post has once again intensified discussion in Maharashtra over the politics of language and identity.
