CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Delhi: Former Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring is scheduled to meet Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi amid developments surrounding the leadership of the party’s Punjab unit. Warring stepped down from the state Congress president’s post after the party high command decided to make an organisational change ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly election.

Warring had updated his social media profile to describe himself as the “former president, Punjab Congress”, while reports said he had submitted his resignation to the party leadership. He later travelled to Delhi for discussions with the central leadership.

The leadership change follows consultations within the Punjab Congress and a report prepared by Punjab affairs in-charge Sachin Pilot. Several names have been discussed for the state president’s position, including Vijay Inder Singla, Pargat Singh, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa and others. The Congress has not yet formally announced Warring’s successor.

Warring had earlier met Rahul Gandhi along with other senior Punjab Congress leaders, including Partap Singh Bajwa, Charanjit Singh Channi, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa and Vijay Inder Singla. Those consultations had focused on organisational issues and preparations for the upcoming Assembly election.

The latest meeting comes as the Congress reviews its organisational structure in Punjab ahead of the 2027 election. The party is expected to announce a new state president after completing its internal consultations. Reports about the likely successor remain subject to the party’s formal decision.
