CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Political rhetoric between the BJP and the Congress has intensified after the results of Rajasthan’s municipal body elections. Both major parties are describing their respective performances as major achievements and are working to project a stronger position before their party high commands.
BJP state president Madan Rathore described the civic polls as a historic victory for the party. According to him, the BJP securing a majority in key cities such as Jaipur and Kota indicates public trust in the BJP’s policies, development work and leadership. He also claimed that the BJP would perform better in the upcoming panchayat elections.
On the other hand, Congress state president Govind Singh Dotasra described the results as a major achievement for the party. He claimed that the difference in vote share between the BJP and the Congress was around half a percentage point. Dotasra also accused the BJP of misuse of power and irregularities in delimitation. Calling the civic polls a semifinal for the 2028 Assembly elections, he raised questions over the leadership of Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma.
In the results, the BJP won 4,179 wards and the Congress won 3,613 wards. The role of independents was also decisive in several places. Both parties are now looking ahead to the upcoming panchayat elections and the 2028 Assembly elections.
